I am taking the over the counter weight loss drug Alli, how long can I take it for?

If you have no adverse effects, then you can take the drug for 18-24 months. However, if you have not lost any weight in 3-6 months, it is unlikely the pill will work in future. From clinical studies, the drug seems to work adequately for about 12 months. You can expect a weight loss of about 1-2 pounds a months as long as you combine it with changes in diet and exercise.

I have joined a weight loss clinic and they recommend that I buy their meals that can help me lose weight. What do you think?

I am sorry but you must be a very gullible and stupid person if you fall for this type of crap. There is no meal plan, which can help people lose weight. The entire weight loss industry is built on scams. Many companies encourage people to buy their meal plans  making false claims that one can easily lose weight. It is all a bunch of BS.

These meal plains do not curb your desire to eat,, they do not help you lose calories, they do not suppress your appetite center, they do not burn off fat- all they do is empty your pockets of your hard earned money. If I were you, continue with the exercise, remain motivated and eat less. If you persist, you can lose weight- and it will cost you nothing.

Do you think Qsymia (Qnexa) will help me lose weight? I am an overweight female

Qsymia is a novel medication that is a combination of phentermine and topiramate. From the clinical trials, this drug was quite effective in not only lowering blood pressure and blood sugar but it also reduced weight.

Phentermine is an old CNS stimulant and topiramate is an anticonvulsant. So far, this combination has been deemed safe if taken for short periods. The drug has been approved by the FDA for weight loss in certain obese patients.

I am always skeptical of clinical trials run by funding from pharmaceutical companies. Moreover, doctors who write reports are often paid money by the companies and the negative results are never published. You should also be aware that approval of the drug was delayed for at least a year because the FDA was concerned about some serious side effects.

Finally, this drug combination is also prohibitively expensive. If I were you, I would wait a while before getting a prescription for this medication. Wait about a year and then you will have a better idea how other people do. In the meantime, walk regularly and eat less.

Do you think phentermine is effective for weight loss?

Phentermine has been around for more than half a century. It is a low potency drug that has some similarity to amphetamine. Over the years, it has been observed that some people can lose weight with this product. Why the drug does not cause weight loss in everyone is a mystery.

Phentermine is a prescription drug and is only prescribed for 12 weeks. It also has many side effects that includes dry mouth, high blood pressure, anxiety, lack of sleep etc. If you think that phentermine is going to help you lose weight while you watch TV, then forget it.

If you want phentermine to work then you MUST eat less and also incorporate some type of exercise into your daily life. Walking everyday is as good as any exercise. Going to the bathroom is pooping and not walking; you need to walk at least 60 mins every day. If you remain motivated, you will lose weight with this agent. However, do not expect miracles.

The weight loss with phentermine is about 2-3 pounds a month.

Is it true that having one’s ears stapled can lead to weight loss?

I have no idea if stapling of ears can lead to weight loss but it sure sounds like a idiotic idea. Better thing to do is to staple your mouth if you want to lose weight. Anyway, there are 1000s of people who have their ears pierced, tattooed, pricked, colored, dyed etc, etc and  not all of them are thin – so the idea of having ears stapled for weight loss is absolutely crazy. Your ears are for hearing.

Stop mucking around with your ears by going to charlatans who are giving advice about weight loss from their backside (arse).

Is it true that injections of vitamin B12 can help me lose weight?

There are many weight loss clinics that make bogus claims. Vitamin B12 has ZERO effect on weight loss. Vitamin B12 injections are for people who have been diagnosed with pernicious anemia. Vitamin B12 deficiency is in fact quite rare in north America.  The majority of weight loss clinics are run by people who know more about scams than medicine.

Best advice, avoid weight loss clinics as the only thing you stand to lose is your money. If you really want to lose weight, eat less and walk more. Stop wasting your money on these expensive injections.

I would like to lose weight and my doctor has recommended hypnosis. What do you think?

If there ever was a scam in healthcare, then hypnosis would be at the top of the list. It does jack shit.  Hypnosis works in gullible people who are submissive and clueless. The only people who benefit from hypnosis are the providers because they make a lot of money. If you have any common sense, save your money from this garbage therapy. If you really want to lose weight, eat less and walk more. All hypnosis will ever give you is disappointment.
