The Rice Diet Part 2

The exotic rice recipes these authors suggest include the following:

- Boiled rice
- Steamed rice
- Par boiled rice
- Sticky rice
- Fried rice
- Vegetarian rice
- Lacto vegetarian rice
- Baked rice
- Rice in spinach
- Rice in tomato
- Rice pudding with no jelly
- And anything else that can go with Rice but no sugar (Got the picture?)

Therefore, after 10 days, you will have a nice slim and trim body with no brain.

The diet starts at around 800 calories per day-, which is close to eating nothing. After a few weeks, you gradually go up to 1200 calories per day, which is still not much. The authors claim individuals who use this diet end up losing a lot of weight and no longer want to eat unhealthy foods (perhaps they are all in hospital being treated for malnourishment?)

The authors of this diet also claim that the rice diet can cure diabetes, fibromyalgia hypertension and a lot of other medical disorders. However, if you were to look at people in India and China who have been eating rice for centuries their overall health is much worse than us in North America have. Granted the Orientals are not fat, but they have just as much diabetes, hypertension, osteoporosis, and even cancers. Could it be that during the recent economic boom in India and China that the poor peasants forgot to follow the directions in the Rice Diet Book? I think the problem is that these Orientals still have all the medical problems is because they eat rice only twice and not three times a day! Please you Orientals who are reading this- it is rice, rice and rice- no duck or dumplings.

So what do the food experts say about the Rice diet? Well, they describe it in one word- TERRIBLE. The diet is a big zero when it comes to nutrition. There is no protein, no vitamins, no minerals, and no fruits- NOTHING. The rice diet may work but you will probably also break up the protein stores in your brain to help support your body. You will be thin, slim, and trim but without your brain-, you will also be a waste of space.

The experts say that any diet that is so low in calories (and monotonous) never leads to long-term weight loss, as the diet cannot be sustained. Even those who lose weight in the first 2 weeks quickly go back to their original eating habits. The rice diet does not alter behaviors or motivate individuals to change. Simply changing the menu or starving people has never helped people lose weight.

The diet is inflexible, boring, and dull. Imagine waking up every morning and having rice for breakfast and more rice for the rest of the day. The rice diet can’t not be sustained.

Searching through cyberspace one quickly realizes that this diet has not caught on. There are zero testimonials on the positive aspects of this diet. Even the Chinese who eat rice twice a day think it sucks. Anyone thinking of starting the Rice Diet, should first go and see a psychiatrist.

The Rice Diet

When I first heard about the Rice Diet, I believed it was from China. Chinese and Orientals love rice and they are also thin. However, what a shock it was to discover that this Rice diet has its roots in North Carolina.

The Rice diet is quite simple. One does not eat sugar, no processed foods or saturated oils. You eat rice for breakfast, rice for snack, rice for lunch and more rice for dinner. Moreover, within 7-10 days you will lose at least 3 pounds in weight. The Rice diet is like a boot camp diet. Besides helping you lose weight, you will also get better control of your diabetes, high blood pressure, arthritic joint pain, and even kidney disease. This will all happen if you live past 14 days of non-stop rice eating.

The Rice Diet has been developed by a female dietician and her physician husband. These two authors have a cookbook on the Rice diet and offer a variety of exotic rice dishes. The diet is very low in calories and one gets to eat a lot of carbohydrates. The authors claim that this will also help you clean your bowels and remove all the environmental toxins which you have been accumulating by eating processed foods. As you start the diet, you will be able to concentrate, think, and perform much more efficiently.

While exercises are not a big thing with this diet, Yoga and meditation is recommended when you are not eating rice. The yoga will do wonders for your body and help you relax. (I am sure the hunger pangs will require some type of relaxation therapy).

Lipovarin- another Health supplement pill for weight Loss? Part 2

Lipovarin is widely available online and in many health food stores. However, the product is not cheap. Ninety capsules currently cost anywhere from $50-$60 and one is supposed to six pills a day. That amounts to about $100-$120 a month. Moreover, the weight loss takes an average of 2-3 months, if it occurs. Therefore, that amounts to about $200-$400 total for a dubious weight loss treatment.

The company even recommends buying additional supplements to help boost the effects of lipovarin. The company fails to explain why one needs to buy these extra health supplements if lipovarin is that great! (another scam?)

Once the capsules are bought, the dealers do agree to a refund but many testimonials on cyberspace indicate that this is practically impossible. So far, no one has gotten any money back (but many received a lot of flak for being stupid).

As to the effects of lipovarin, all the reports are only made by dealers and other paid consumers. Most of the testimonials are negative and many claim that the product is bogus. A blog on lipovarin claims that not only is the product useless but the customer service is even worse.

At the moment lipovarin is definitely not the magic pill for weight loss. For those who still want to lose weight, continue surfing, eating less and walking more- by the time a weight loss pill is available, you probably will not ever need it.

Lipovarin- another Health supplement pill for weight Loss?

Recently there has been a lot of hype about lipovarin and its ability to help people lose weight. Lipovarin is a non-prescription weight loss supplement, which the dealers say can help one lose weight. It does have an ingredient called Advantra-Z in the formulation- this ingredient is said to be thermogenic and helps one burn fat very quickly. Further, it is claimed that this supplement also provides a boost in energy, increases libido and revitalizes your body- Sounds great so far.

The formulation contains a lot of natural chemicals including green tea extracts, caffeine, L carnitine, taurine and Advantra-Z.

Lipovarin contains the ingredient synephrine. Synephrine is very similar in structure to ephedrine, which is a known brain stimulant and works like a thermogenic agent (burns of calories).

The reason ephedrine was taken off the market was because it was associated with a number of complications including heart attacks, strokes, chest pain and heart palpitations. Currently it is believed that Synephrine acts very similar to ephedrine and has the potential to cause serious health problems.

3-day diet plan for weight loss Part 2

So what does this magical 3 day diet entail:

Breakfast-

- beverage, with 1-2 packets of artificial sweetener
- ½ grape fruit
- I toast with one-teaspoon peanut butter

Lunch

- ½-cup tuna
- One toast
- Beverage with artificial sweetener

Dinner

- 3 oz meat/chicken
- 1-cup green beans
- 1-cup carrots
- One apple
- I cup regular ice cream

And so this is all you eat, cycle after cycle.

The author of the diet says within 3 days you will feel new and thin. Well, that is all talk but what about the evidence?

Despite the fact that the 3-day diet plan has been around for more than 20 years, there is not a single scientific study to validate claims of the author. There are no trials, no testimonials, and no reports. In fact, no individuals have ever come forward and claimed that within 3 days he/she lost weight and had reduction in blood pressure.

There are no magical ingredients and there is nothing special about the diet. If one simply did not eat for 3 days and follow the 3-day routine, the results would be the same. There is no ingredient in the diet plan that can help you cleanse your bowels unless you puree the foods and give yourself a good enema! All the talk about reducing blood pressure and cholesterol is just a bunch of crap.

So what to the food experts have to say about this 3-diet plan? Absolute nonsense, not sustainable and not nutritious. There is no way that eating very calorie diets are sustainable for more than a day. Therefore, for all those who want to lose weight, chuck this diet plan in the garbage and for those who bought the book, use it for firewood.

Weight loss is a difficult problem
. For those who want to lose weight, do not give up. Eat a well balanced diet and start an exercise program. While this is not some thing fancy, it is cheap, safe and a guaranteed method for weight loss.

3-day diet plan for weight loss

One of the diets designed to help people lose weight is the 3-day diet plan. This diet plan was first developed nearly 20 years ago and surprising some people still use it for weight loss- yes, lose weight in 3 days!

One of the reasons this diet plan has always remained at the top is not because it works or is something special, but consumers are attracted to reducing weight loss in 3 days. Who will not try a weight loss diet that works in 3 days? The creator of this diet plan claims that not only can one lose weight, but also the diet plan will help reduce blood pressure, decrease blood cholesterol and also helps you clean your bowels.

The 3-day diet is quite rigid and one must follow the diet as mentioned to get the results. The diet is followed for 3 days and then one goes back to normal eating for 4-5 days before going back on the 3-day diet plan. If this diet plan is followed then it is claimed than one can lose 10 pounds in a few weeks.

Well, going on a diet plan for 3 days cannot be that tough but wait till you see what you are allowed to eat. Essentially nothing. The foods are very restrictive and the portions are very small. If you eat even one extra calorie, you will definitely not lose the 10 pounds in weight. In almost all cases when an individual fails to lose weight, the author blames the individual for not following the diet instructions. Moreover, if you think you get blamed for overeating, you cannot even under eat. If you under eat, you will not lose weight either.

Beverely Hills Diet Plan Part 2

How all this works is not easy to understand but the author does provide an explanation about rates of metabolism and absorption- all that boring stuff which nutritionists love to talk about.

So what do the food experts have to say about the Beverly Hills diet?

Well, none of the experts believes the hogwash about this bizarre food combination theory. They claim there is no evidence that if you eat one particular food type that you cannot get fat and all this hodge podge about food combinations has zero relevance to weight loss. They do however; agree that the diet is positive since it recommends fruits and vegetables. However, they do add the diet is positively unhealthy.

One would think that a diet with a famous name like Beverly Hills diet would be a hit. But unfortunately, there are very few testimonials which are positive. Most testimonials use words like crap, useless and s..t. What they really meant was the diet was not practical or sustainable for more than 3 days. Following this complex routine requires having to carry a small computer and writing down everything one has eaten. Imagine someone going to work and having to remember what he or she ate in the morning. While most people know what a fruit is, very few people can tell the difference between a carbohydrate and a protein!

The author has to be credited for popularizing Beverly Hills, where all the beautiful people live, but the diet actually sucks. As David Grotto, a spokesperson for the American Dietetic Association sums it, "like Alexander The Great's nothing but alcohol diet. Nutritionally incomplete and not practical”

So how about us who still want to lose weight? In reality, most diets books are written simply to make money. Who really cares if the diet plan works or not. There are a lot of gullible people out there with delusions of grandeur.

In reality, losing weight is hard and no one really has an answer. There is no one-diet plan for all individuals. The only one fact that we do know is that if you eat less and walk more, you will lose weight. Unfortunately, most people do not want to adopt this life style and would rather buy a pill or read a book on how to lose weight the easy way. For these people, just like cyberspace, the ideal diet for weight loss is an illusion.

Beverely Hills Diet Plan

California has always been at the forefront of new diets and one of the oldest diets to come from that State is the Beverly Hills Diet.

The diet is based on the idea that if you eat the right foods at the right time of the day, then you can lose weight. The diet plan extends for 6 weeks and the author claim that the diet is well balanced and nutritionally adequate. The authors of this diet claim that the reason we gain weight is because of two things- we eat at the wrong time and also eat the wrong foods. So the Beverly Hills Diet says -eat at a different time and eat what the diet says.

The Beverly Hills Diet says proteins go with proteins or fats, carbohydrates go with carbohydrates or fat and fruits go alone (what the authors fail to explain to a dumbo like me, is what are fruits? (Sounds confusing already?)

Ok so this is how you start.

For breakfast
, eat a fruit and eat as much as you want. For the next hour, you cannot switch to another food. Then you follow the above regimen. However, if you eat a carbohydrate later in the day, then you cannot eat fruit for the rest of the day.

If you start the morning with a carbohydrate, then stay with carbohydrates, but you can change to proteins after 1 hour and then it is all protein for the rest of the day.

One is allowed to drink fruit juices and even wine is allowed. In addition, there is even more good news; alcohol can be consumed with carbohydrates and for those who have money, Champagne is allowed with all foods. The diet plan does give recipes that average about 1000-1200 calories/day.

And does one have to exercise with this diet. No, not compulsory. But if you have time, a treadmill, and feel like it, the choice is yours – so far all looks great.

So if you stick to this diet plan for 6 weeks, you can lose 10-15 pounds.

The Mediterranean Diet and Weight Loss Part 2

The diet is not complex at all, is fairly affordable, nutritious and varied. The basics of the diet include the following:

- Eat fruit with every meal. The type of fruit is not
important
- Have a variety of green vegetables in the daily diet
- Eat lots of whole cereal grains like flaxseed
- Limit red meat in the diet
- Avoid processed foods
- Use olive oil in all cooking. Do not use butter or
margarine
- Limit the total daily content of fat to < 20% of the
daily diet
- When cooking, select low fat products
- Cook all foods in olive oil
- While fish is recommended, do not indulge in too
many eggs and bacon
- Drink a glass of red wine on a daily basis

So this is it. There is no magic bullet in the Mediterranean diet except a lot of common sense. The Mediterranean diet is all about eating in moderation, cutting down on fats, meat and eating lots of veggies. So does this diet help one lose weight? Absolutely not. There is not one ingredient in the Mediterranean diet that has anything special. We have the same foods all over America but unfortunately, we prefer pizza and super sized burgers. One only has to visit countries around the Mediterranean and obesity is rampant.

The Mediterranean diet has been exported to the USA by immigrants and widely consumed in the homes of many Italians, Greeks and so on. Moreover, these folks appear to be putting on weight just like the rest of us.

The diet has nothing to do with losing weight. If you eat more and do not exercise, you will get fat even on the Mediterranean diet. So in the end, it all comes down to eating less, walking more and avoiding Baskin Robbins and Cadbury Chocolates.

The Mediterranean Diet and Weight Loss

Everyone goes Oh and Aha when they first hear of the Mediterranean diet. The diet always appears exotic and presents visions of beautiful slim women on the beaches of Europe. Everyone seems to think if you eat this diet, you will soon like Brigit Bardot. But is this all true? Is this Mediterranean diet the panacea to weight loss?

The Mediterranean diet has been around for many decades. The individuals living around the shores of the Mediterranean Sea had no idea that they were eating a diet that was so healthy. Then one day, some American went to Europe and glanced at all the beautiful slim trim individuals on the beach and the first thought that came to his mind was food. Not the weather, sun, or water, but yes Food. And that is how this diet came about.

Since those days, many North Americans have traveled to Europe and brought back their own versions of the Mediterranean diet. Not to be left out, the Italians, Greeks, Spanish, Turkish, Israelis and everyone else has also jumped on the bandwagon, claiming they have the original Mediterranean diet.

For starters, there is no such thing as a special or original Mediterranean diet. If you were to visit five different counties in Italy alone, you will get 30 different versions of this diet and 20 times as many ingredients. Each locality has its on version of the diet.

Why all the fuss about the Mediterranean diet? Well, it is a widely known medical fact that this diet promotes healthy eating and good nutrition. In the medical literature, there are some who claim that the incidence of heart disease and atherosclerosis is reduced when one eats the Mediterranean diet.

Grape Fruit Diet Part 2

There is no limitation on butter or salad dressing. No in-between snacks and drink 8-10 glasses of water. Only eat the foods recommended in the diet plan. No processed foods, chocolates, pizza, hamburgers or sugary foods.

The grapefruit diet is about 800-1200 calories per day- this is considered very low calorie. For those who have no idea what 800 calories/day mean- one word should describe it- starvation.

The experts say that the diet is so low in calories that one can lose weight without the grape fruit. It has nothing to do with grape fruit. So how does one lose weight? Simple, getting rid of water- which you gain back right away as soon as you get fed up of the diet in 3 days. By the way if you were to eat /drink oranges with this diet instead of grapefruit, you could call it the orange fruit diet and get the same result.

Grapefruit is a very low calorie fruit but has tons of vitamins and fiber. There is nothing magical about grapefruit. The fruit has no sugar and thus your insulin levels will also drop. The majority of individual who have tried this monotonous diet claim that the hunger pangs are severe that one is simply unable to function with daily life activities (now you see why no exercise is recommended).

The experts further claim that grapefruit is like any other citrus fruit and has no special properties. For individuals who are interested in weight loss, grape fruit diet is certainly not the best way. It is a monotonous diet, which is very restrictive and is a prescription for making you whine and gripe all the time.

The weight loss which occurs with grape fruit diet is not healthy, either. The grapefruit is an okay fruit that can be eaten every now and then but certainly is a very poor fruit for weight loss.

Whether you select a pink or green grape fruit really does not make a difference. For those wishing to lose weight, choose a diet that is flexible, has long term success, helps you change your lifestyle and behavior. Moreover, choose a diet plan that allows you to enjoy the process of losing weight. The only thing the grapefruit diet will do for you is to give you hunger pangs and hemorrhoids.

Grape Fruit Diet

The fad to lose weight began some 30-40 years ago. One day, someone in California woke up and thought the nation was getting fat and developed a diet fad. Since that time, thousands of weight loss diets have come and gone. The most common reason why diets have become popular is that the available drugs for weight loss are not safe.

One of the longest surviving diets from the 1970s is the grape fruit diet. The diet has been so long in existence that no one really claims to be the inventor anymore. The effectiveness of the diet is typically spread by word of mouth. The premise of the grape fruit diet is that there is something in this fruit that can help you burn fat and cause weight loss.

In cyberspace, the advocates of this diet claim that one can lose a lot of weight in just a few days by eating grape fruit. Some claim that you can lose 10 pounds in weight in just 12 days. For those who want to lose more weight, there is a waiting period of 2 days before you can restart the cycle again. The role of exercise in the grape fruit diet is a puzzle. Some say exercise, others say do not exercise. Either way you lose weight. Not bad!

The grapefruit diet plan goes as follows:

Breakfast: eggs, bacon, black coffee, grapefruit juice, or half a grapefruit

Lunch:
Salad, unlimited lean meat and more grapefruit juice or half a grapefruit

Dinner
is more greens, unlimited meat or fish and grapefruit

The best non prescription weight loss pill part 3

Well does it work?

The majority of individuals who take Alli report some amount of weight loss. The weight loss is gradual and takes at least 2-3 months. This drug is not a magical pill and will not cause a 100-pound weight loss. So be realistic. The most weight one can lose is about 3-6 pounds every few months.

The major reason why people do not continue with Alli is because of the side effects. One may want to double the pill to get a better effect, but rest assured, the side effects will occur and your white panties will definitely be brown by the end of the day. Having oily poop, stained underpants and passing foul smelling gas is not a great way to make friends.

Fortunately, not everyone develops side effects. The exact number of individuals who develop side effects is not really known because not many people brag about staining their underpants with poop. By all estimates the number of individuals with side effects is about 30-50 percent. The only way to reduce the side effects is to cut down on dietary fat and lower the dose of Alli. If you eat no fat, then there is no point in taking the pill

The other factor to consider is the cost of Alli. It is not trivial. Each pill averages about $ 2 and one takes anywhere from 2-3 pills a day. A month’s supply with discount still averages $50-$70. Unfortunately, the government is broke and so are the insurance companies. You have to pay for the pills your self. However, on the positive side, Alli is a lot cheaper and safer than surgery.

Alli is a great weight loss pill for someone just starting out and is in no hurry to become a skeleton. To get the maximum benefit from Alli, it is best to incorporate an exercise program, cut down on calories, change the life style in simple walk more, and eat less.

Despite the media hype, Alli is not the magic pill for weight loss but it is a start. The pill works in most individuals except some Orientals. Individuals from the orient do have some genetic differences in the enzyme and Alli does not inhibit it effectively.

For those who can tolerate the embarrassing side effects, Alli should be seen as a beginning of program towards successful weight loss. No one said losing weight is easy.

The best non prescription weight loss pill part 2

Normally when a person eats, the fats have to be broken down by various enzymes in the stomach before the small fat particles can be absorbed. The enzyme responsible for breaking down fat is called lipase.

Alli, is a known inhibitor of this enzyme. When the enzyme is inhibited, it can no longer breakdown the large fat particles, which are then excreted into the feces. When fat is no longer absorbed, it mixes with the stools and produces an oily poop. This also results in generation of a lot of gas. This is one reason why individuals who are on Alli have frothy and oily poop.

Now the facts. Alli does not completely inhibit the enzyme and thus a little amount of fat is absorbed into the body. Most individuals see inhibition of the lipase enzyme anywhere from 50%-75% but this is adequate for weight loss

What is the best non-prescription medication for weight loss?

Everyday, there are hundreds of ads all over the place about the wonder drug, Alli. Each and every ad mentions that one can readily lose anywhere from weight in 2-4 months. Can this be true? Is this the magic bullet for weight loss?

Just what is Alli
? Alli is an over the counter drug, approved by the FDA to help individuals decrease body weight. The drug is a generic version of Xenical. Unlike Xenical, Alli is only available at half the strength but otherwise it is the same drug. If you combine 2 pills of Alli, then you have xenical.

However, just like Xenical, Alli also has comparable side effects, which include excess passage of gas, abdominal cramps, the occasional inability to control bowel motion, and generation of oily and frothy stools. The most common complain though, is soiling of the underpants. The reason for this is that the oily stools just leak out of the rectum. While this is not dangerous, it really is not great for one’s social life.

Shangri la diet Part 2

So does this work?

Yes, says Dr Roberts. He lost 35 pounds in 3 months. Unfortunately, neither Dr. Phil nor Oprah ever invited him over because in the whole wide world, this is the only testimonial to the diet.

And what do the food experts say about this? Associating flavor and taste to the appetite center is nothing new but no one has ever shown that eating crap makes you lose weight. If you were to go to the Orient, people eat all sorts of things that we would call crap- snakes, grasshoppers, beetles, rats, cats, dogs, insects, drink urine- and how come they do not have appetite suppression?

The nutritionist and food experts claim that this Shangri la diet is misleading, not practical and full of s…t. No one has ever shown that eating sugar water causes weight loss. Just look at what Coca Cola- it packs calories. In addition, with Coca Cola, people eat more hamburgers, pizzas, French fries, and processed foods. In fact, one study showed that if you fed rats with sugar water or olive oil; it did absolutely nothing- diddlysquat. Damn, the rats just ate more and got fat.

When Dr. Roberts was told that the problem is that people eat pizza and burgers. He says to make the pizza taste like crap, add some cinnamon (wonder where he got his PhD from!). The nutritionists say, more crap. Eating cinnamon has never been shown to decrease weight- please stop your nonsense, Dr Roberts.

So what about the Shangri la diet? Well, Shangri La is meant to be a place of beauty, serenity, paradise and something like heaven. The Shangri La diet is a bunch of nonsense or as we say in America- BS

Shangri la diet

One of the exotic diets created by a Dr Roberts (not an MD) is the Shangri la diet. The diet is claimed to diminish the urge to eat by resetting the appetite center in the brain. Dr Roberts claims that this can very simply be done by drinking a little bit of sugar water or a tiny bit of extra olive oil during mealtime. Once you do this, the appetite center in the brain will immediately sense that you are full and your appetite will decrease.

Dr Roberts does acknowledge that losing weight is tough and no method really works but now he has the magic formula -just some olive oil or sugar water. Dr Roberts says that over time, the appetite center is reset and you become thin.

Well, there are a few unanswered questions for Dr Roberts. Do you have any evidence for this? Nope. Is there anything published anywhere that supports your theory? Nope. Does it work? Nope. Do you know where the appetite center is? Nope. Do you know what triggers the appetite center? Nope. Do you know where the brain is? Nope. Therefore, all we have so far is some theory without any proof and Dr Roberts own testimony that he lost weight with this approach.

There is a little more to this diet theory. If you eat sweet and delicious foods, the brain somehow likes it and creates the urge to eat more. So rather than stimulating the brain with nice sweet food, eat absolute crap and that will turn off the appetite center. Therefore, Dr Roberts says drinking spoonfuls of olive oil or a spoonful of sugar is crap and this will turn of the appetite center. I am sure there are more crappy foods than sugar and olive oil- Hey Dr. Roberts, how about drinking urine or car engine oil? Will that not do?

So how does this Shangri la diet work?

At breakfast, you drink some sugar water and olive oil with every meal. Two spoonfuls of olive oil straight from the bottle. You do get some calories from the oil and sugar but it does not count since it has no good taste. During the diet, eat veggies, fruits, and whole grains. But do not eat processed foods and great stuff like chocolates. Dr Roberts also adds that there is no need for exercise (told you he is not a real physician). Nope, no need to walk, lift, jog or swim. Hell, you can even not go to the bathroom- just poop in your bed.

Cabbage Soup Diet Part 2

The author has published a menu. It goes like this- two bowls of fat free cabbage soup in the morning, more fat free cabbage in the afternoon and this is how it goes for the rest of week. Of course, you can eat some fruit, boiled vegetables, skim milk and drink water, but you sure cannot drink alcohol. If you do not have water, you can drink cabbage soup.

Therefore, it is cabbage, cabbage and more cabbage and what is surprising is that there are people bragging about how great this diet is. The author claims that cabbage diet is very low in calories and one can easily lose weight (not to mention the mind).

The author must be a real genius because now one can easily make a diet of any vegetable like carrots, spinach, beetroots, cauliflower and so on- if there are gullible (or foolish) people who have bought the cabbage soup diet I am sure people will buy these vegetable diets.

There is no thing magical about the cabbage diet. If you eat less of anything, you can lose weight. Dear author of the cabbage soup diet - please our problem is not in the stomach but in the brain. We simply cannot stop eating and we are not motivated to go out and exercise. In any case, why people need to buy a book on a cabbage soup diet is very peculiar.

So what do the food experts have to say about this diet? Well for one thing, they all agree that cabbage is good for rabbits and no one disagrees. Further, all health care professionals, dieticians, and nutritionists all agree that cabbage is very good for rabbits. However, humans can eat cabbage occasionally if there is no other food available in the house.

This boring, dull, monotonous diet with absolutely nothing desirable or attractive about it has been around for a few decades and the book sells for about $14. So far, there are no testimonials on how good the cabbage diet is. In fact, it is impossible to find anyone who has been on this diet and done great. Experts believe that food which are less than 1200 calories per day are dangerous to health. Even the weight loss that occurs on this diet is temporary and is chiefly due to loss of water. All that fat that you have, still remains.

Therefore, in the end, the cabbage diet is okay if you are broke, have no enemies, family, or friends, but do have a rabbit- so you can both share something similar.
However, for all consumers who are serious about weight loss and are contemplating the cabbage soup diet, please do not spend any money on this book. Go book your self an appointment with a psychiatrist first.
.

Cabbage Soup Diet Part 1

One of the more exotic diets which has been marketed for weight loss has been the cabbage soup diet. The diet has been around for years and incredibly, there are some people who are on it. The diet is based on a very simple formula- you dine on cabbage all day. The cabbage can be raw, boiled, made in to a powder, soup, lotion, potion, or chewing gum.

When you wake up in the morning, you have cabbage soup, at lunchtime it is more cabbage soup and the same thing before bedtime. For a snack, you can eat raw cabbage. Moreover, if you do this for one solid week, you will lose 10 pounds in weight. The author of this diet must be congratulated for putting out such an innovative diet.

By the way on this diet, you cannot eat chocolates, candy, desserts, nothing cooked can be eaten, nothing is fried; but if it is anything cabbage you can eat it. I am not sure if you can eat the cabbage patch doll on this diet regimen.

The other great thing about this diet is that there is no exercise. Nothing, no walking, no jogging, no getting up to change the TV channels- NADA. You do not even have to get up from your couch as long as you eat the cabbage.

The author claims that this diet can help you save money as you can make can make all the fancy cabbage recipes at home. You also save money because there are no restaurants anywhere on earth that make everything cabbage 7 days a week. The amount of weight loss that can occur on this diet is about 10 pounds- sounds like this is an underestimate!

Anti Psychotics and Weight Gain

One of the most common side effects of anti psychotic drugs is weight gain. Even the newer anti psychotics like olanzapine and risperidol have been associated with weight gain. There are a number of individuals who will not take their anti psychotic medications because of this disturbing side effect.

Over the years, it has become known that individuals who take anti psychotics do develop a multitude of complications related to weight gain and in fact, these individuals do have a higher death rate than the average population.

Why weight gain occurs with these anti psychotic drugs is not full known but is believed to be related to genes or a biochemical change in the brain. There is evidence that some individuals may have genetic make-up, which causes the drugs to influence their eating habits. This is just speculation because the majority of individuals who take anti psychotics put on weight. The anti psychotics do not discriminate against any gene(s), race, gender, age, color, or ethnicity- everyone gain weight.

A few recent animal studies have shown that anti psychotics drugs can increase the activity of an enzyme known as the appetite-regulating enzyme commonly known as AMPK. Further, all anti psychotics also limit the ability of insulin to work; the resulting insulin resistance has also been associated with weight gain.

So what are the treatment options for these individuals?

Well to begin with, all individuals who take anti psychotics should be encouraged to eat healthy and enter into an exercise program. A decrease in calorie consumption is important.

A single study from China showed that the anti diabetic drug, metformin, did reverse the weight gain induced by anti psychotics. These effects were observed in diabetics who were on anti psychotic drugs. Metformin should not be taken by individuals with normal blood sugar because this can lead to a severe lowering of blood sugars, that can be life threatening. This may not be of great importance in China but in North America prescribing a diabetic drug to a non-diabetic is one “great method” of generating a medical malpractice claim.

Unfortunately, all anti psychotics induce weight gain, so switching to a different medication is useless. For the time being, there is no magic bullet to solve weight gain induced by anti psychotics. Adhering to a strict diet and exercise is probably the best advice- the point is that many people simply are not motivated.

You: On A diet - Part 2

And what to do the food experts say about this You: on A diet plan. Well this is not a magic bullet to weight loss. There are no rules or diets for everyone. The experts claim that eating the same foods everyday is not only boring but no one can sustain such a diet for more than 2 weeks. Sure, the book recommends exercise and a change in life style, but a person has to eat some decent food!

For fans and students of Dr Oz who understand all about biochemistry, obesity, and metabolism, the book is a great Christmas present to replace the firewood.

For those thinking about a diet program; this book is worthwhile reading at night if you do not have TV. However, for the majority of individuals who really want to lose weight, the diet plan and book are CRAP. It really is not worth spending $ 20 for a book that is dry, dull, and impossible to read after the 2nd page.

All of you who want to lose weight, please do not buy a diet book. Start walking and eat less. There are so many diet books out there; the whole thing has gotten out of hand. Every book makes outrageous claims and this one is no different.

Finally, recently in the news, there has been word that Oprah has ballooned or should we say gotten fat. Hell, we do not need news for that, it is obvious on TV that Oprah is big (and I am sure she is not pregnant- or is she?).

Well, many months ago Dr Oz had personally given Oprah a signed copy of his diet book. Nine months later Oprah is in the news about her weight. When Oprah was asked about her weight, she said the diet plan did not work and she has to lose weight.
She never mentioned what diet plan that she was following. Well, since DR Oz is her favorite MD, does not one think she would have peeked inside the book? Apparently not.

If Dr Oz’s You: On A diet plan had worked, do you not think for one second Oprah would be slim or may be a little less fat?

Well Oprah does have a new trainer and a new diet book, of course, Dr Oz was not included in her new diet plan. Most likely the You: on A diet book is probably in the fireplace.

You: On A diet - Part 1

These days every physician and health care professional wants to go on TV and talk about their latest book on diets. Some go on the Dr Phil Show and some go on the Oprah Show. No matter what specialty the doctor has trained in, they always have advice on how to lose weight. There are some doctors who have never seen a live patient and yet they talk about diet.

Writing and selling diet books by doctors is now a favorite past time in America. One of the reasons why doctors write diet books is that they love to talk big, and plus it brings in money. When doctors write, people think they are right! So now, we have the latest You: On a Diet- the owner’s manual for waist management!

This diet book is written by Oprah's favorite doctor, Dr Mehmet Oz and his partner Dr Michael Roizen. The book talks a lot about waist sizes and how if one was to reduce waist size of the body, weight would decrease (really Dr Oz?). With this diet plan, you do not count calories, just your waist size.

The You: On A Diet book contain the usual details about obesity, waist size and health problems -nothing new there. The You: on A Diet plan starts with a 2 week crash course on exercise and eating healthy. The book says one cannot eat sugars, saturated fats, and all that sweet stuff (are you listening Oprah). While the book says one cannot eat sweet foods it does not dwell much into what one can eat. These doctors claim that by limiting the diet choice, this will lead to appetite suppression. The fewer choices you have, the less you will indulge.

The You: on A diet plan says you got to walk 30 minutes a day and eat 2 meals a day. There are a lot of pictures and how to perform exercise illustrations. Oprah had Dr Oz over on her Show and the book sold really well (am not sure if Oprah read the book-see later). The book explains everything about obesity and at the Oprah show, the word wonderful and super was used many times.
