I have terrible acne scars and have been recommended radiofrequency
ablation. Will it work?
Acne scars are difficult to treat and no matter what treatment
you select, you will end up being disappointed. All radiofrequency ablation is
a heat like device similar to a laser. The people who offer this therapy make
big claims about their success rates with acne scars, but they are full of
shit. Radiofrequency ablation heats the tissue underneath the skin and may
reduce the scar, but it is rarely curative. It also does not work for deep
scars and scars that have been present for a long time. Radiofrequency ablation
is also not cheap. Each session may cost anywhere from $400-$1,000 and you will
have to undergo many sessions (the doctor will give you some BS story why you
need many sessions). My advice is read about the technique online and read what
others are saying. Do not be rushed into the treatment as acne scars are not
life threatening. Do not go to any healthcare professional as many of these
people do not know the mouth from the backside. If you have the money, try a
few sessions and see what happens. If you do not have the money, take some
Prozac. It may not cure the scar but will reduce the anxiety.
