Sunscreens and expiration

Do sunscreens expire?

Yes, sunscreens do expire. Unfortunately the regulation and labeling of sunscreens is not rigid. While some sunscreens do have an expiry date, many do not. So when you buy a sunscreen the first thing you should look for is the expiration date. In general, most sunscreens last about 3 years. However, if you use sunscreen liberally most will only last one summer. To make sure your sunscreen is effective buy one with an SPF of at least 15.
