Drug for Dysthymia

I have dysthymia. Is there a specific drug used to treat this disorder?

Dysthymia is a common disorder that affects millions of people. This disorder with ongoing low-grade depression can make the quality of life very poor. A number of drugs are used to treat dysthymia. Overall, it appears that the SSRIs are the most effective and relatively safe. There is no one SSRI that is better than the other, but anecdotal reports indicate that perhaps sertraline is preferred. The one thing you have to understand is that dysthymia is a life long disorder and no matter what drug you take, it must be taken for life. Hence, the drug must be safe, relatively cheap and has minimal adverse effects. Plus as a patient you must stick to the drug, otherwise, your depressive symptoms will never resolve. Try sertraline, I think it will work. Since it does cause weight gain, exercise and watch your diet.
