Impetigo in an adult

Can impetigo occur in adults?

Impetigo is a skin disorder of children. It is a highly contagious disorder and often occurs on the face and extremities. The small honey colored lesions have a moist base. Impetigo is not common in adults but if you are work or play in hot humid environments, you can develop this infection. People who have poor personal hygiene can also develop impetigo.

The treatment is simple- good personal hygiene, clean the wound with a washcloth and keep the area clean. The majority of impetigo lesions that do not swell resolve without any antibiotics. If you have swollen lesions, you may need antibiotic therapy for a few days.
